Uhuru House Renovation -
St. Petersburg
We have transformed the Uhuru House with extensive work -- upgrading the electric and plumbing, and adding central air/heat, paved parking, and landscaping.
The Uhuru House is known throughout the world as the center defending the human and civil rights of the African community where African people can come together with the power of a collective voice to solve the pressing problems facing African people daily.
- Professional recording studio gives young people an opportunity to produce positive music and to make a living without compromise to an exploitative recording industry.
- Internet radio/TV broadcasting station and media center
provides African people ownership and control of worldwide news and
information.
- Auditorium and kitchen available at affordable prices for family celebrations, caterers, club meetings or parties. Stage, sound system, and commercial food service appliances are needed.
With your generous support we can fully equip this beautiful building to house programs critical to the future and well-being of the African community.
Fitness Gym Addition
Architectural plans have been drafted for a 1,000 sq ft addition to the All People's TyRon Lewis Community Gym to enable us to provide fitness classes in aerobics, yoga, African dance, martial arts, and more.
We've outgrown our extremely popular gym with weight training and cardiovascular equipment, free health education events and a monthly health newsletter.
Uhuru's Black Gym of Our Own began inside the Uhuru House in 1994. The TyRon Lewis Community Gym was opened at its current location in June 2001. We expanded the gym 600 sf last year, adding more equipment and a smoothie/healthy snack bar. Now the 1,000 sf addition will allow us to resume our aerobics and other fitness classes.
Your contribution means construction can start so that we can become a full-fledged fitness center to continue to address the life and death health issues in the African community.
